There are lots of little-known facts about anxiety and here are just a few of them for you to have a look through.

  • Anxiety can be genetically linked. This doesn’t mean that because your mum has anxiety, you will too. What it means is that when an individual has other family members who experience anxiety, they may be at a higher likelihood of developing anxiety themselves if they were to be exposed to a stressful event or traumatic experience.

  • Depression and anxiety are linked conditions, and if an individual experiences generalised anxiety disorder, they are more likely to develop depression than those people who do not have generalised anxiety.
  • Anxiety not only causes feelings of intense worry, but it can also cause a number of physical symptoms to manifest. These can include shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat, digestive problems, headaches, feeling sick, dizziness and increased sweating. In some cases, these symptoms can be so severe they can be mistaken for other serious medical conditions such as heart attacks and strokes.
