Restoring old plastic toys

Do you have some old toys in the attic? Many people do. These are usually the forgotten bits of plastic from the Seventies and Eighties. However, there might be some real gems up there that could actually be worth a lot of money. Stars Wars toys are still highly sought after. These were made by the company Kenner and Palitoy. It was a big risk for the manufacturer at the time. Merchandising for films was quite unheard of at the time and if the film had flopped it would have been left with a huge amount of product it could not sell.

As we know the film was a roaring success and continues to be so. The Millenium Falcon, Tie Fighter and X Wings were all reproduced along with a full range of figures. These are now worth quite a lot on the toy market. However, the quality of the plastic is not as good as it is now and you may find that they have become discoloured. This is where a Large Ultrasonic Cleaner, like that from www.hilsonic.co.uk can be very helpful.

The cleaning of such plastic means that you can’t use abrasive cleaning products. You can scratch the surface and damage the plastic. However, the sonic cleaner will vibrate the dirt right off. Combine that with a hydroxide cleaning solution and it will look like new. You will need new stickers. There are several companies that provide these from the original templates.
